...auctions are awesome

Most people have heard of an auction or an estate sale but a lot of people have never been.

To some it may seem boring or some may even think it's all outdated junk. I get it if you're style is modern and new, but for me, I'll take the antique!
To me, furniture that was built years ago lasts longer than today's furniture, and the details in an antique piece are beautiful and timeless. Although, 95% of the time a piece will show wear and tear and that is when you have to get your hands dirty and bring it back to life!

So if you're into antiques and have never been to an auction, you should go! You never know what you can find and restore :)

Here are some before&afters of things I have bought from auctions and estate sales.

Remember: Paint can do wonders and can create a one of a kind piece!
So find you an auction to go to! ;)

Until next time!

Diy Chalk Paint

Tutorial on how to create your own chalk paint

This chalk paint recipe consists of flat latex paint, plaster of paris, and water. It's a thicker paint but it goes on just as easy as regular paint. I like this type of paint because it gives a piece an antique finish.

With this paint there is no sanding or priming.

Although, I personally like to sand the surfaces and clean the piece with a wet cloth. I want to make sure all that grime and years of dust and dirt are off before I put that pretty paint on! ;)

Chalk Paint Recipe:

SUPPLIES NEEDED:
-Valspar Signature flat latex paint
-Plastic paint buckets (I use a plastic bowl)
-Plaster of Paris
-Stir Sticks
-Plastic measuring cups (don't reuse for food)
-Water (cool, not warm)
-Paste wax

1. Mix 1/3 cup of plaster paris and 1/3 cup of cool water. Stir until completely smooth.

2. Mix that with 1 cup of latex paint and stir thoroughly.

*This will make enough chalk paint for one coat on a 6 drawer dresser.

*Chalk Paint should not be stored and reused.

*If you have a smaller project, mix smaller amounts of ingredients in the same proportions.

The Plaster of Paris is easy to find. I found mine at Lowes hardware. (Next to the paint supply aisle) It's a powder form- very easy to mix. Don't be scared.

*Important*
After you paint your piece you will need to wax it to protect it. I use the Annie Sloan waxes but you can purchase the paste wax (haven't tried that) in your hardware store. I will post a waxing tutorial on my blog.

As you can see in the picture above, I once used a different paint then what the recipe calls for. I used a paint & primer mix. I found it dirt cheap so I thought: "What's to lose??!" Lol I had fun experimenting with it, it literally felt and looked like cottage cheese! It painted on fine though and dried to look like normal paint! :)

All of this has been a huge learning experience for me. I've definitely became brave in trying out new things and experimenting! I couldn't have done it though without Micha. He is just so supportive and I love him for it!

Hope you find this helpful!

...From Dated To Shabby Chic

I know I've been posting a lot of grey painted furniture lately, but it's because I have so much Annie Sloan Paris Grey Chalk Paint! I bought a quart and I've painted a high chair, 2 end tables, and a coffee table. This paint is unbelievable. I still have 1/2 of a quart left! I'm in love with this color though, it's so versatile. :)

I may do a video tutorial on the chalk paint one day...when I'm brave enough, but, don't hold me to that. LOL

I don't have a before picture of the coffee table. Sorry, but you can kinda see it in this pic (which my dear hubby shot of me). All 3 pieces came as a set. Although, I chose to do a different look with the coffee table.

I was thrilled to take these babes home with me.
More on the other diy items later-except the gas can that is Micha's...haha.

Now for the fun part- PAINTING!
I wanted y'all to see how beautifully the 1st coat of the chalk paint goes on. It literally STICKS!! For the 2nd coat of paint, I mixed a lil water with a lil paint and that's all it needed. I chose to paint over the hardware for a clean look.

Btw, this paint is eco-friendly. I paint inside my house! :)

After the paint was dry, (which takes a grand total of 20 minutes-YEP, 20!!) I distressed the table in areas- where over time, would age, worn from use or handling. I really like how much attention it gives to the distressed details. So Shabby Chic.

I also distressed the hardware a little to make it look worn.

Last but not least, I applied the clear wax. She's like new again, only prettier ;)

Until next time,

Libba :)

Shabby Chic End Tables

... Just a little touch of Love

These vintage end tables just needed a little touch of love. They were left abandoned in an outdoor building and were very dirty and dusty. Luckily, I was able to save them and give them a fresh, updated look! :)

Check out the before pics..
Yeah, they were pretty rough.

I painted them both with Annie Sloan Paris Grey. I wanted them to have an aged look, so I distressed them. I LOVEEE the aged look!!

I wanted to add a cute detail to the end table. So when I was out and about, I stopped at the craft store and found the perfect floral stencil! As you can see in the pictures the details in the stencil match the hardware! It was too perfect. Yay :)
I chose Annie Sloan Burgundy to paint the floral detail and also the hardware.

I think the pop of color gives the end tables a nice touch and better yet, they're one of a kind!

Here are a few different shots of the end tables:

 Hope you enjoyed the post!

Mason Jar Love

I love fall. I love the pumpkins, the flowers, the baked goodies, the cool weather and of course Halloween & Thanksgiving! I also love to decorate for the season.

Mason Jars are good for decorating with at any time of year, but there's something about those fall flowers in a mason jar...

These are very simple to do.
First, I painted the mason jars almond. Then, I distressed them with sandpaper until I got the look that I wanted. Lastly, I tied twine around the brim to give them that rustic/country cottage feel.

Oh! My sweet husband bought me some lovely flowers so I put them in the mason jars :)
LOVE THIS LOOK!

The Revived Highchair

This vintage high chair was probably quite lovely in the 1980's, but it's in the 21st century now and this style is just a No-No. Although, I saw her potential so I took her home!

My husband and I enjoy going to auctions to buy vintage furniture. Well, he goes for the guns lol, but he loves to bid on the furniture that I want. We always have a great time (haha, we are so old but it's so fun to us).

I saw this gal at the auction we were attending and I just knew she could look great! So, we got her and I fixed her up!

On this high chair I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. The color is Paris Grey. I am a huge fan of Annie's paint! It's AMAZING. It can be a bit pricey, but the paint goes a long way. I used just about an inch of this pint.

REALLY. IT TAKES 1 COAT!

This high chair needed to be loved! Doesn't it look great? I love the whole farmhouse style that she has. I thought about distressing it, but I really like the crisp, clean/vintage look on this beautiful piece.

When the paint was dry, I took the Annie Sloan Clear Wax and applied it to the entire high chair. (This process is very crucial because it helps protect the paint from chipping. I applied it with a lint free cloth.)

Notice the difference after applying the clear wax. It darkens the paint a little bit and gives it a nice shine.

Well folks, that is my revived high chair. I was very tempted to keep it but... I have no child so I had to sell her! I'm happy that I brought her back to life and for her to be used again. :)

Thanks for the read!
